If, after your first PADI DSD Programme, you make more DSD dives, you get no closer to PADI Open Water Diver.  These DSD dives are to a max. depth of 12m.  OW Divers may explore down to 18m.  DSD divers must dive with by a PADI pro..  Teams of OW Divers may dive without a DM.  Referrals of up to 12 months each time are fine for a PADI Open Water Course student.

OK, so you are a PADI Open Water Diver or have a cert. inc. four open water dives.  So, what’s next?  The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course lets you explore down to 30m.  There are five Adventure Dives, with two core ones—Deep and U/W Nav—and three more you choose from 19.  Each dive comes with a short Knowledge Review; there is no Final Exam.  You can do a max. of three PADI training dives in 24 hours, so you can do your Advanced Open Water Diver Course in a min. of two days.  Referrals between Adventure Dives with Knowledge Reviews done have no time limit.

You may log any three Adventure Dives, along with their KRs, to get the PADI Adventure Diver card.  You can get this cert. in a min. of just one day, which means you can move on to the PADI Deep Diver or Wreck Diver Course and to PADI Rescue Diver.  You can do your Advanced Open Water Diver Course after these certs..

Within the last 24 months, you need EFR CPR and First Aid or equiv. before the end of your PADI Rescue Diver Course, unless you are a doctor or nurse, etc..  You need the EFR Instructor rating or equiv. before PADI will place you in Teaching Status as an Instructor.

You need Rescue Diver or equiv. for Tec 45 Diver and for PADI Divemaster.  You need DM or equiv. to progress on to the PADI IDC.

The Deep Course lets you dive to 40m/130 feet, the limit for rec. training.  PADI Cavern Diver, Ice Diver or Wreck Diver let you explore the light zone, to a max. 40m from the top.  Enriched Air (NitrOx) Diver allows the use of up to 40 per cent. O2 in a gas blend, for more bottom time with no deco..  The Altitude Course lets you explore mountain lakes at up to 3,000m.  The PADI Self-Reliant Diver (solo diver) Course lets you dive alone.

The PADI Master SCUBA Diver rating denotes a diver with at least five PADI TecRec or PADI Specialty Diver ratings, who also has a min. of 50 dives and has PADI or equiv. Rescue and the Advanced Open Water Diver Course.  2015 processing of the MSD rating is free-of-charge in PADI Asia-Pacific.

    I have been to Malapascua before and seen the Thresher Sharks and Manta rays and loved it. I am now a MSD (just) and keen to move onto self reliant diver and/or Tec Rec…please let me know the costs etc.
