Drift Diving.

Drift Diving.  PADI MSDT Speciality Instructor Training Course. Master SCUBA Diver. TecRec Course Director Dan Robinson.

One of the best dives I have done so far was in the Ginnie Springs cave system in Florida in the US.  The dive began in a river and I had to fight my way in to the spring against the flow.  The way out was with the flow and I just had to grab a tree to deco. at the end!  I have been lucky enough to have dived in strong currents in places inc. Maldives, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Palau, etc.  Large pelagic fish such as sharks and manta rays like to hang out in strong drifts.  I took the barracuda photo at the top of this page whilst drift diving off Palau.

As my IDC students know too well, some form of surface supervision is often needed when drift diving.  You do not want to lose your buddy or the boat if you are diving from one.  SMBs are mostly used at the end of dives for deco. or safety stops.  Local rules may say that they have to be one colour if all is OK and another if not or some divers will send two up the same line.  (N.B.  PADI Drift Diver is a not a deco. course!)

I can build you a bespoke package, say.

  • PADI Drift Diving Course.
  • PADI SMB Course.
  • PADI Diver Propulsion Vehicle Course.
  • PADI U/W Photo Course.
  • PADI U/W Video Course.

Each two months on the paradise Island of Malapascua, off Cebu, in the Philippines, award-winning DSAT Course Director Dan Robinson runs his.

  • IDC.
  • IDC Staff Course.
  • MSDT Prep Course.
  • Specialty Instructor Course (inc. Drift Diving) for PHP 8,000 each.
  • Technical diving from Tec Basics right up through full Tec Trimix Instructor and Tec Advanced Wreck Instructor.
  • ANDI Cave Course.

I can also travel to wherever else you are in the World, especially to the UK or to Australia.  In 2013, PADI will charge you a one-off app. fee per Specialty Instructor card of just AUD 77 if you do the course with me.  If you do five with me at the same time in the Philippines, then they will charge you for just four.  Your yearly fees do not increase when you can teach more courses or when you are MSDT or IDC Staff.
