Sidemount.

Sidemount. For cave & wreck diving. Not to look cool with your buoyancy or to stand in front of a mirror in your kit. Rec. course.

For the last couple of years, sidemount has been the latest diver fad.  Cave divers have dived in the UK in home-made sidemount harnesses for decades.  The American system is a little different.  The point is to slim down your profile so that you may penetrate narrow passageways and bedding planes.  Sidemount may simplify logistics as you do not need to have your tanks fixed together with twinning bands and manifolds.  Single tanks are more easy to carry and to remove and replace in the water.  Sidemount is not about having your pic. taken in a pool or open water with perfect buoyancy.  This is standard for all instructors and for all tec divers too.  Sidemount is not about looking at yourself in a mirror while wearing your kit.

Only PADI Sidemount Instructors may teach the PADI Sidemount Adventure Dive.  (This is the same for the AWARE Shark Conservation Adventure Dive.)  You will need to buy the PADI Sidemount Instructor Guide, which is not inc. in the Specialty Instructor Manual.

PADI Sidemount Instructors may teach the DSAT TecRec range in sidemount kit.

If you do the PADI Sidemount Instructor Course with me, you do not need the sidemount student card first.  If you do the course with me, you do not have to wait for your first 25 student certs.  If you do the course with me in 2013, PADI AP will charge you just AUD 77 per Speciality Instructor cert.  If you do five with me at the same time in the Philippines in 2013, PADI AP will charge you for just four.  If you do five with me at the same time in 2013 on Koh Tao, PADI will give you your MSDT free once you have those first 25 certs.
