Choose WaterColors diving school PADI Boracay S-6775.  The PADI Open Water Diver Course is the World’s most popular (c.80 per cent.) entry-level SCUBA cert..  With this card, you may dive with an Open Water buddy down to a max. depth of 18m.

The OWC at your diving school PADI Boracay has some book work and some Confined and Open Water Dives.

You must watch the PADI Open Water Diver DVD at your diving school PADI Boracay or else buy eLearning or Touch.  You must own a PADI Open Water Diver Manual (paper or eLearning or Touch option) and a DSAT RDP (table or eRDPml version), together with its own booklet. You may buy these from your diving school PADI Boracay or in your home country, e.g. from Amazon or eBay.  “Crewpaks” [sic] include a PIC paper version or on-line credit for your cert. card.  This—or a digital Crew-pak—is the best way to go as then there are no local import duties.  The five chapters of the book and the four Knowledge Reviews for Chapters 1–4 are done at your own pace and not overnight while you are here at your diving school PADI Boracay.  It helps if you do §1 before Confined Dive 1 and Open Water Dive 2 may not start until KD 1–3 have been done.  If you do not choose eLearning, then you must do four Quick Quizzes with me after I check your KRs, then the Final Exam, all here at your diving school PADI Boracay.

Confined Water has five dives, either in a swimming pool or clear, calm and shallow open water (sea/lake/quarry).  Most of the skills in CW1–5 must be done again by students in Open Water.  In confined, the PADI Instructor (not a Divemaster, Divemaster Trainee or anyone else) must show all skills first to students.  Students practice until I believe they can do them in Open Water.  Students must assemble and disassemble SCUBA equipment three times by the end of CW3 and five times by the end of CW5.  Students must also show proper post-dive kit cleaning by the end of CW3.  A few skin diving skills are also done during Confined.

There are four Open Water dives, during which students repeat most of the skills from Confined until I can see that they could do them if I was not there.  Compass skills are also done.  Before OW2, you must swim or float for 10 minutes and swim for 200m or snorkel for 300m.

You may do no more than three training (OW) dives in 24 hours.  If you do any CW during a day, then only a max. of two open water training dives can then be done on that day.  A resort OWC often takes place over three or so days at your diving school PADI Boracay.

The PADI SCUBA Diver course is part of the OWC:  KD1–3, plus quizzes; CW1–3; and OW1–2.  PADI SCUBA Divers must dive with a PADI pro., to a max. depth of 12m.

An instructor may refer you to another instructor, valid for 12 months from the date of your last segment.  Students are often referred after they do all parts except OW1–4, i.e. after KD1–5, four Quizzes, Final Exam, CW1–5, five kit builds, kit care, skin diving, 10-min. float and 200m swim.  Then you can just do the four dives here with me at your diving school PADI Boracay.

I would like to know if my Open Water Diver ID Card is acceptable as an identification card anywhere?

    • Hi, The PADI OW card is a Positive ID Card (PIC) as it has the diver’s photograph, but this does not mean it will necessarily be accepted anywhere. It is obviously no substitute for government issued papers such as passport, driving licence. Cheers
