PADI Instructor Training Classes.

PADI Instructor Training Classes. Instructor Development Course Knowledge Development. Instructor Exam presentations.

How do you feel about standing-up in front of half a dozen people and giving a 5–10 min. talk?  How is your public speaking?  You will need to master this on your PADI Instructor Training Classes and do it again on your IE.

A knowledge development presentation has three parts.

  • Introduction.  This is like a briefing of what you will teach.  You do not teach here.  This only lasts 1 min. or so.  You start with a contact or ice-breaker; it is best to use a non-diving story that implies value.  You may make effetive use of your non-diving training aid here.  You need to interact in an effective way.  You give the key points, which are the answers.  Tell them how, when and why they will use the info..  Do not do the “where” yet.  Tell them how they should conduct themselves.
  • Content or Body.  This has two parts—what you are teaching and its sequencing.  You give the objective or performance requirement, which is the question.  You must cover this.  Tell how, when, why and where they will do it.  Sell the dive site.  Do not go off scope.  Here you will sell both a PADI continuing education course (use the flowchart) and a piece of dive equipment (pass it ’round).  You will learn how to use all the info. on all the slides in the PADI lesson guide.  You need to get your students to speak to you, but not just read the slide or say “Yes” or “No”.
  • Summary.  Remind them how, when and why.  You don’t need the “where”.  Cover the question and answer.  Interact again.  Tell them to come and sign-up for the next course you sold them and buy the dive kit you told them they need.

Your IE has four segments.

  • Written Exams.
  • Knowledge Development.
  • Confined Water.
  • Open Water.

In 2015 PADI Asia-Pacific will charge you Australian dollars AUD A$785 for your first IE.  PADI Europe, Middle East and Africa will take EUR €500 euros.  If you are not successful on all four segments, the AP fee to resit each one is AUD 330.  EMEA will take €225 for each module.  To date all of my candidates have passed their first IE.

In your PADI Instructor Training Classes, you must score a min. of 3.5 out of 5.0 at least twice from three tries.  On your IE you will have a re-make if you need it.  Both candidates’ initial and make-up assignments are given at the start of the IE, with confined and open water skills.
